Breast Thermography
Safe, non-invasive breast cancer screening without radiation or compression designed to support early detection and preventative breast wellness.
Breast Cancer Screening Without Radiation or Compression
Because breast cancer cells are rapidly dividing, they require an increase in blood flow—a process known as "angiogenesis," meaning new blood vessel growth. Angiogenesis is the earliest known sign of breast cancer and can be identified with breast thermography.
Breast thermography is an FDA-approved breast cancer screening test designed to support early detection through thermal imaging technology.

How Breast Thermography Works
Thermography detects heat patterns and vascular activity that may indicate suspicious breast tissue changes earlier than traditional structural imaging methods.
Unlike mammography, breast thermography:
- Does not use radiation
- Does not require breast compression
- Is not affected by dense breast tissue
- Is safe for women with breast implants
- Is painless and non-invasive
Accuracy & Clinical Research
There are more than 800 published studies in peer-reviewed journals supporting the accuracy of breast thermography. Research has demonstrated accuracy rates greater than 90%.
A 2008 study at New York-Presbyterian Hospital in Cornell, published in the American Journal of Surgery, demonstrated a 97% sensitivity rate.
Additional Research Highlights
- Thermography may help detect aggressive cancers earlier due to increased angiogenesis.
- Thermography may reduce false positives and unnecessary invasive treatments.
- Thermography evaluates metabolic activity rather than structural appearance alone.
Thermography Compared to Mammography
Unlike mammography, thermography:
- Does not expose patients to radiation
- Is not less accurate in dense breast tissue
- Does not require painful compression
- Does not increase the risk of developing breast cancer
Radiation exposure from repeated mammograms has been associated with increased cancer risk, while thermography does not increase the risk of breast cancer development.
Additional Information
Studies conducted in Europe have suggested that mammograms may reduce breast cancer mortality by less than 10 percent and, in some cases, may not reduce mortality at all.
According to the New England Journal of Medicine, approximately 1.3 million women in the United States have undergone unnecessary invasive cancer treatments over the last 30 years due to harmless tumors identified through mammography.
Thermography may help reduce overtreatment by identifying whether tissue is metabolically active.
Benefits of Breast Thermography
Benefits
- Radiation-free screening
- No painful compression
- Safe for dense breast tissue
- Safe for women with implants
- Early detection support
- Non-invasive and painless
- Safe for repeated screenings
- Supports preventative wellness
- Cost-effective screening option
Recommended Screening Guidelines
Because thermography does not use radiation, screening may begin earlier than traditional mammography.
Recommended Schedule
- Baseline screening at age 20
- Screening every other year until age 30
- Annual screening beginning at age 30
Important Note
Early detection remains one of the most important factors in treating and overcoming breast cancer.
